Silverfish

What the heck are SILVERFISH?

Silverfish are silver-grey wingless insects found in houses feeding on book bindings and starched bedding and clothing.  Silverfish like to eat carbohydrates such as sugar and starches. Silverfish live from 2 to 8 years.

Silverfish come out at NIGHT

Silverfish are nocturnal so the night time is their time to come out.

Silverfish DO NOT FLY

The Silverfish does not have wings.  They wiggle back and forth like a fish which is one reason they are called silverfish, that plus their color.

Silverfish like HUMIDITY

They will inhabit moist areas but prefer humidity between 75 to 95 percent.  Silverfish love basements, bathrooms, old trunks, piles of newspapers and h=oh so much more . . .

Silverfish Will DAMAGE Your Precious Books

I’ve seen silverfish eat all the paper ling from an old steamer truck as well as the clothing in the trunk.

Silverfish are considered household pests, due to their consumption and destruction of property.  Although they are responsible for the contamination of food and other types of damage, they do not transmit disease

Call First Pest Control if you suspect silverfish. Often adult children bring silverfish into their homes when moving or sorting through a loved one’s belongings after a relative passes.

Take great care when moving old books and newspapers into your home – a small pile of books can have millions of silverfish and their eggs just waiting to come out after the lights go out.
