Spiders
The use of insecticide can worsen spider plagues instead of reducing them.
There are 5 species of dangerously venomous spiders that inhabit Florida. I feel that anyone who lives in or visits Florida should make themselves aware of these spiders, and learn how to identify them. Click on any of the spider names below for information about the species.
- Northern & Southern Black Widow
- Brown Widow
- Red Widow
Northern Black Widow and Southern Black Widow Spiders
Black widow spiders are most recognized for the red hourglass shape under their abdomen. Young children and the elderly are especially susceptible to a severe reaction to a black widow spider bite.
Contrary to legend, female black widow spiders rarely devour the male black
widow spider after mating.
